Munster Junior League Div. 2
โ Killarney 5 Clanwilliam 22 โ Killarney were the better team for 38 minutes at Dirreen last Sunday afternoon when 2nd from top club Clanwilliam came to consolidate their position as second place in the league table. They got extremely stiff resistance and Alan Mulligan started his New Year very well by capping off a fine performance with a try out wide which went unconverted. Ger Allman had a tigerish performance at 7 as did Paul OโSullivan at 9. Hilary McCarthy has done very well at 10 and is involved in everything positive. Killarney stole lineouts and mauled and scrummaged well for the first half until a lapse in concentration before the break allowed the Tipp no. 13 in from 20 yards untouched close to the posts to make it 7-5 half-time. The scores rattled Killarney whose discipline became more ragged as the 2nd half progressed. We had plenty of possession but simple mistakes in midfield and wrong kicking options instead of keeping ball in hand (รก la Munster!) gave the ball away. It must be said this is absolutely no reason for a lack of concentration from our boys. We have to look to the next phase of play and doing that would be a real positive discipline. We have a fine squad of players and we can do better than this if we work harder and give coach John Nikora the response he deserves. A tough assignment awaits away to Abbeyfeale next Sunday at 2.30pm. Abbey are tough at home but very beatable. We need a win and letโs hope the boys can put one over on them.
