Our minis finished up training for the season with a final training session and awards party at Aghadoe, last Saturday the 23rd of April. A glorious day in perfect conditions witnessed all age groups play matches, watched by their families who came along to support them on the day.

Over 110 children received medals, while at each age group two players received an award for ‘Most Committed Player’ and ‘Player of the Year’. The parents really helped out by bringing food along and we had literally a mountain of food fro everyone to enjoy. A huge thank you must go to the parents who brought food on the day.

Mini Coordinator kicked off proceedings by asking KRFC club chairman Junior Finnegan to say a few words to the gathering. Liam then said a few words of thanks to those gathered with a special mention to Tom and Dora Campbell for all of their assistance over the season. A huge thanks to the Coaches who gave up their time to develop the rugby skills of each player in a fun environment. We had Mark Leslie and Ed Stack coaching at U7 with help from John O’Leary and Derek Dennehy, Ed Stack and Liam Murphy coached the U8’s. Paul Murphy, Richard O’Brien, Ger Moynihan and Pat Chambers coached the U10’s while Ian Harrington, Chris Kerins and Alan Horgan trained the U12’s across the season.

Liam also thanked Denise Treacy and Denis Corridan who have worked hard in setting up our girls training, a new departure for the club which is truly going from strength to strength. He thanked the parents for their unending support and the mountain of food that they brought to feed everyone today and the biggest thanks of all was saved for the children who came to learn and play rugby week in, week out. Given the weather this winter was so bad, this was no mean feat! Finally on behalf of the coaches, he thanked the coaches families for their support and help.

We then proceeded to hand out medals to each age group, where every child received their deserved and hard won medals with huge smiles after a busy season. Finally the big moment came where we awarded the following trophies to our deserving winners.

Well done to all the children and to the award winners. We then proceeded to make a presentation to two of our U12 players Josh Hewerdine and Sam Behal who were injured during the year – not at Rugby! They missed a lot of the season, however they turned up every week to help in any way they could and showed huge committment to the club. Finally a presentation was also made to Tom Campbell in appreciation of his hard work and committment to the Minis Section over the years.

A great day was had by all and it was nice to sign off a season marred by brutal weather with a glorious day of sunshine at our home in Aghadoe. Thanks again to Minis Coordinator Liam Murphy for organising the day and the season to date. Trojan work went in to making sure we didn’t lose too many sessions during what was a bad winter weather wise.
