The weekend just passed was fairly busy – although concesions meant that 2 games didn’t take place although as we were not the club conceding, they go down as a win.
Saturday 4 March
- U14 Boys Munster Cup Killarney RFC 12 Waterpark RFC 10
- After some to-and-froing this match eventually took place in Fermoy at 3pm. This was a tight game and the result was in doubt until the end. Half time score was 5-5, and Waterpark took the lead with a try early in the 2nd half to go ahead 10-5. The crucial score came from Liam McCarthy who went under the posts to give Cian Stack an easier conversion. Leading 12-10 there were still 10 minutes to go – but excellent defence saw Killarney keep out Waterpark to record an excellent victory in what was their fourth roadtrip in 5 weeks. We now advance to the semi-final of the U14 Munster Cup to await the winner of a North vs East quarter final.
- U14 Girls Munster Development Cup Bandon/Kinsale L Killarney W
- Bandon/Kinsale conceded this match. U14s have a home game with Skibbereen this coming weekend
- U16 Boys Munster Cup Quarter final RugbaΓ Chorca Dhuibhne 13 Killarney RFC 13
- Playing a place in the last 4 in Munster, and draw from home wasn’t sufficient for our lads. With scores tied at the end of the game – the verdict went to the team scoring the the first try (number of tries scored being equal). Unfortunately, for us that was RCD. Killarney opened the scoring with a penalty to lead 3-0. RCD replied in similar manner, and a second penalty pushed our lead out to 6-3 at half time. Early in the second half, Corca Dhuibhne scored the decisive try. We replied with a Bryan Walsh interception to level score but at the final whistle with the score tied at 13-13, the team scoring the the first try advanced. Though unbeaten, they exit the competition. Nevertheless, reaching the top 8 in Munster is no mean feat

Sunday 5 March
- Senior men – Munster Junior Bowl – Killarney RFC W Sundays Well RFC L
- Our senior men advanced to the Bowl final against Castleisland on 26 March when Sundays Well conceded
- U18.5 Boys Munster Development Cup – Quarter final Killarney RFC 17 Young Munster RFC 7
- The U18.5 boys advanced to the semi-final of the Development Cup with a terrific win against Young Munster. Killarney applied the early pressure and opened the scoring with a try from Scott Carlton, experly coinverted by Finn Kennelly from a difficult angle. A second try followed when Hugh O’Malley picked up from an undefended ruck on the Young Munster 22 to run in under the posts giving Kennelly an comfortable conversion. A penalty later in the 1st half pushed out Killarney lead to 17-0. In the second half, we maintained the pressure and will probably think we should have scored a couple of more times to put the game away. Inevitably, Young Munster started to get their bigger forwards into the game and sustained pressure led to a yellow card and – with reduced numbers – a penalty try. However, super defence denied Young Munster and smart tactical kicking slowed the game and kept them deep in their own half. The lads advance to the last 4 of this competition and play Sundays Well next Saturday at home.
