Rockwell College

Recap

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲: KILK 34 – Clonakilty 48

Played in perfect sunny and dry conditions at Rockwell College, KILK’s U18.5 side produced a performance full of passion, courage, and promise in the Munster League Final on Sunday, 8th February 2026. The setting matched the occasion, and both teams delivered a high-quality contest worthy of a provincial final.

KILK made an immediate statement through Keelin O’Shea, who ignited the game inside the opening ten minutes. Collecting the ball deep in her own territory, O’Shea ran the length of the pitch to score a stunning opening try. She followed it with another equally impressive effort, once again showing blistering pace to beat the final defender and extend KILK’s early advantage, setting the tone for a thrilling encounter.

That early momentum was driven on by a committed and physical forward pack who embraced the challenge of a strong Clonakilty side. Sara O’Connor set standards with powerful ball carrying, repeatedly getting over the gain line. Lilly Mae Donnelly was relentless at the breakdown, delivering abrasive clearouts and tireless support play that ensured quick, attacking ball. Eibhlin Lynch grew in influence as the game developed, making big metres with determined carries that lifted the team at key moments, while Holly Barrett brought calm and experience to the breakdown, securing possession under pressure.

Captain Melissa McCarthy delivered a true leader’s performance, driving standards through her work rate, physicality, and communication. She led by example in contact and instilled belief in those around her, particularly during the most demanding phases of the contest. Danielle Naughton epitomised grit and determination, never letting up and showing sharp awareness to dart from the clutches of the Cork defence to score a well-earned forwards try. Ella Guerin Crowley made a major impact on the scoreboard, crossing for two vital tries either side of half-time, showing pace, strength, and determination when her team needed it most. Isabelle O’Shea added quality and composure with intelligent link play and deft touches to stretch the defence.

Behind the pack, Muireann Vivier controlled the tempo from scrum-half with quick, accurate service. Eliza O’Sullivan showed real class at out-half, mixing sharp distribution with clever offloads, while Isabelle O’Shea added quality and composure with intelligent link play. Cara Reilly powered over for a superbly worked try from centre and backed it up with strong defence. Orla Murphy’s footwork troubled defenders throughout, with Mary Ellen McDonnell and Hannah Collins providing threat and physicality out wide.

The replacements—Ellen Gleeson, Grace O’Keffee, Elisa Orsini, Emma Looney, Lola O’Neill, Sarah Mangan, Eimear Murphy, and Daimhin McKenna—played their part with energy, encouragement, and commitment, highlighting the depth and unity within the group.

Overall, the players were excellent. They never backed down, gave everything, and will take huge learnings from this experience as they now look ahead to the cup competition. The massive support and colour from the sidelines, with supporters travelling to witness a wonderful team performance, was greatly appreciated and added to a memorable day for this talented group.

Thanks to Clonakility for a great game, and wishing Mary Ellen a good recovery.
