U16s welcome Clonakilty for a preason warmup
Clonakilty RFC visited on Saturday 14th September as both clubs looked to get some competitive game time before the start of the Pan Munster competitions.Β For those coming up from U14, this was their first encounter in the rarified air of U16 rugby
Clonakilty opened the scoring after dominating much of the early play. But we struck back quickly, playing some good structured rugby to bring play into the Clon 22 and forcing Clon to defend near the ruck – we took advantage by spreading the ball wide for Murray Gill to score. GearΓ³id Moynihan converted to give a 7-5 lead.
A second try followed when Ronan Coffey chipped through, re-gathered the ball as the bounce took it away from the covcering Clon defender and raced away to score.Β Stung Clonakilty struck back with a secod try to leave the half time score at Killarney 12 Clonakilty 10.
In the second half, Clon came out energised and scored 2 further tries to lead 22-10, but we hit back with a try from Shane Tomlinson – converted by GearΓ³id Moynihan.Β The final stages were hard fought as Killarney tried for the winning score and Clon tried to consolidate their lead but the final whistle arrived with the final score Killarney 19 Clonakilty 22
