Killarney U16 girls take the spoils against Dunmanway/Bantry Bay

Well done to our U16 girls who took the spoils versus Dunmanway/Bantry Bay last Saturday. The final whistle sounding as a magnificent rainbow took up the sky at Aghadoe. Killarney crossed the line for 7 tries and followed up with 4 conversions over the hour.

With a focus on improving flexibility within our team, several players were given an opportunity to play in positions outside of their normal. This quickly paid off, with Melissa McCarthy who usually plays in the forwards, playing at full back, taking a pass out wide towards the wing, and crossing the line for the first try. Other positional changes included half-time swaps between Holly O’Sullivan and Eliza O’Sullivan (out-half/first center), Leanne Griffin and Isabella O’Leary (scrum-half/winger), Kerry O’Shea and Ava Moynihan sharing a half each at hooker.

In the final quarter, Dunmanway/Bantry Bay lost three players to injury. In the true spirit of rugby and fair-play, Killarney dropped numbers on the field to match the opposition. The game finishing at 12-a-side with a final score Killarney 43 Dunmanway/Bantry 17.

Player of the game was Holly O’Sullivan scoring three tries, each try coming from deep from inside our own half and Holly having the pace to outrun the Dunmanway/Bantry Bay defense. Well done Holly!!
